Engineering setout surveys involve the setting out of points in three dimensions (location and height) generally for large infrastructure projects such as roads, highways and bridges.
The surveys are carried out to a greater accuracy than that typically adopted for cadastral surveys. Points to be set-out at a site are taken from design plans supplied by the client. Details (co-ordinates and reduced levels) are interpreted from the design plans and then marked on the ground to facilitate construction of the relevant structure. Marks placed during the survey are checked and survey plans are issued later to aid the contractor in making use of the marks that have been placed.
